DISABLED VETERANS ARE THE LIVING DEAD..by Lt Col Upindera Singh Gill, SM

(COPY OF AN E MAIL RECEIVED FROM LT COL UPINDERA SINGH GILL ,A DISABLED VETERAN):e mail ID: upindergill@hotmail.com

I have been reading your mails forwarded by many a friend

it is sure very apt to remember the martyrs of kargil
the units along with survivors celebrate the VICTORY.
but has any one ever given a thought about another element
THE BATTLE CASUALTIES - DISABLED WAR VETERANS and
ever facilitated them

Unfortunately a lot of BRAVE HEARTS who live a life of anonymity,
kind courtesy the ARMED FORCES , have been forgotten into the dusk
of operations and truly are the LIVING DEAD of the armed forces and this country.

One ought to be ashamed to have for-gotten this element. But none are,
as you may be aware. The AG"s branch AHQ and MOD have no record
after the battle casualties are invalided out of service and are treated as
ordinary pensioners.
So, that is why the lot is fighting a lone battle for their rights and emoluments
none of the ESM's, IESL or IESM have raised a whimper over the DISABILITY
EMOLUMENTS disparity and gradual erosion of the dues

IN 1972, the Congress govt of Smt Indera Gandhi, authorised that Disabled War veterans irrespective of years of service rendered, would be deemed to have served full service in the rank and get the pension of maximum in rank and disability element of 60% there of.
this was reduced to min of rank subsequently, THE INTERIM LOT EFFECTED ARE FIGHTING THEIR CASE IN COURT

When the Adjutant General is unaware of all this, then how could the Service Chiefs
and any one else in hierarchy be aware

I did write to Gen kadyan, about taking up the cause, the reply was lets sort out
the OROP first then shall take up the case. My stand is why not now and along side
strike as the iron is hot
Sir, all that is being sought is parity with the post 2006 WIP's , instead of the fixing
of disability element let it be as per the % of pension deemed for the post casualties
and not to have different tables

THEREFORE IT IS A BLATANT IGNORANCE OF THIS CLASS OF BRAVE HEARTS -
THE LIVING DEAD, BY EACH AND EVERY SECTION OF THE SERVING AND RETIRED COMMUNITY OF THE ARMED forces. HAVE YOU EVER WITNESSED THEM BEING
HONOURABLY INVITED TO ANY FUNCTION AT STATE LEVEL BY ANY GOVT OR UNIT,
BRIGADE,DIVISION CORPS,COMMAND, ARMY

WHAT COULD BE MORE HUMILIATING, INSULTING, DEROGATORY, .............
use what ever other words one can

The poor PBOR's with their meager salaries are unable and unwilling to financially support the only organisation fighting for their dues in courts of justice, and being financially
contributed by a few willing officer members of the MOD recognised DISABLED WAR VETERANS ASSOCIATION OF INDIA.

I wonder Sir, how best you and others who are active and involved, FIGHT FOR THE JUST AND REALISTIC DEMAND OF RECTIFYING THE ANOMALIES IN THEIR EMOLUMENTS AND GIVING THEM AN HONOURABLE EXISTENCE

LASTLY NOT TO FOR GET THE OTHER DISABLED PERSONNEL, THEIR DUES TOO HAVE TO BE RECTIFIED ALONG WITH

Regards

  1. Dear Col Gill
I also feel that the issue of BC/War disabled should also be taken up simultaneously along with OROP. Govt as it appears does not want IESM to take credit for OROP. Hence it will give some thing near OROP as it appears from FM budget purposals. In fact now is the time to raise our issues and lobby it in UPA.
Can any one enlighten me why all those BC's who take PMR(Pre mature retirement)are denied BC pension.
    regards
